The Food Sustainability Committee of

El Paso and Neighboring Areas

committed #foodsustainabilityelpaso

foodsustainability@proton.me

There are thousands of people across the country who have been 'going back to their roots' within the last decade, exploring our local resources to

(1) maintain and sustain harmony with our environment, and to

(2) express gratitude of this land that we call home.

With El Paso being the sister city of Ciudad Juarez - cultural exploration, from past to present, is a healthy motive for an ever-growing and connected community of peoples of all sorts of backgrounds.

Supporting Our Modern-Day Stewards

The people who grow the food of this area are our modern-day cultivators and stewards of the land, just as those before us. They study how the land lives, and how the land lives to feed us, you could say.

As members of the Food Sustainability Committee of El Paso,
we hope that our voices are heard as part of a growing movement in the United States
and as part of a shared knowing along with other El Paso locals.

The members of this committee enthusiastically live by food sustainability in the best and humblest self-serving way possible –
acknowledging the full history of the stewards of this land,
and advocating for the farmers, holistic small businesses, and whole-foods enthusiasts of our local communities.

As a small organic farmer since 2014,

I have personally felt and tasted the difference between chemical based agricultural produce and food grown from living soil.

When plants and animals are raised in harmony with nature

the results are obvious

but largely misunderstood.

People have become accustomed to large, shiny, unblemished, produce.

...the elephant in the room is flavor and nutrition.

Working with the public at farmers markets and top chefs at many local restaurants including Ardovinos Desert crossing and Eloise is proof that the flavor of naturally grown food is unparalleled.

Those flavors and colours are in fact nutrients that are actually missing from chemically produced foods...

We work so hard fighting nature which leads our communities to deficiencies and illness.

Farmers of all kinds are doing their best with what they have

and are on razor thin margins

so this isnt to disparage those who feed our community and world...

This is a loving reminder that we have all the knowledge and solutions already.

There are many examples of what regenerative agriculture looks like

even in the desert

but those pioneers have little to no meaningful support.

Partnership and harmony with nature

and the multitude of microbes which make up the soil and our bodies microbiome

is the way of the past and the future.

We can use all the help we can get bridging the gap from where we are and where we can be.

If we want our children and all those who come after us to have a fighting chance at abundance, everyone should be doing all they can to support our local regenerative agriculturalists.
